Instead of supporting cheesy video game sprites, I'm locking down the aesthetics. You can make any sort of game you want so long as you play it with tokens that move around on a network of spaces connected by paths. I'm going to add (with a similar visual style) a big title text element, an a scrolling text boxes (for instructions, state, and logging). To avoid the complexity of having to lay out your level using logic code, the nodes are layed out procedurally (aka randomly) at the start and the user (game design) can drag them around to visualize the map however they like. The fatty drop shadow radius is causing me performance problems. Maybe my integrated video card isn't up to the standards required by the Decora library.
