To draw anti-aliased edges for the terrain I had to extract its top vertices and draw them as a separate line strip. OpenGL ES doesn't seem to support polygon smoothing. Oh yeah, and now there is an asymmetric, curved galactic smear and proper rotation of the stars.

Other than aurora, which I still haven't implemented yet, what are other reasonable things to draw in the night sky that have a simple OpenGL implementation? - satellites / planes / helicopters - soft, dark, obscuring clouds - space battles?
